Family lanterns — Mass participation
Burning the Clocks is an event for people of all ages. Families have always been involved with their children, each making their own individual lantern to pass into the fire. They start as young as 3 until they are 93, mking different shapes each year, including pyramids, stars, flowers and teardrops. Every year they make 500 lanterns and join the parade.
The theme for my lantern is mass family participation. With this in mind I have used shapes which often feature in the family lanterns….like diamonds/pyramids, stars and hearts. The shapes create a figure with outstretched arms holding a star and reminds me a little bit of the nut cracker.
Decor plays a strong part in the design using hearts and stars to create patterns; and strings of paper dolls holding lanterns to portray the mass family participation.
