Celebrating 30 years of bringing people together through art making
We have been active in Brighton and Hove for thirty years, the organisation being initiated in the Moulsecoomb area of the city as a strong community arts response to tragic local events.
Going back to our roots Wild Park was the perfect location, a long, undomesticated park with a natural amphitheater.
Whisp is about celebrating the park, using it, exploring it and enjoying it. A reminder that it is there for everyone.
Six same sky artists built six large effigies. The theme for the big builds was The Senses – Sight, Hearing, Smell, Taste, Touch and Balance. The builds were 2.5m high, on simple trolleys. Each effigy carried a tribute/gift comprising smaller builds that were made by various community groups and included a public making aspect in various community centres around Moulsecomb. These were lit internally.
A registered charity since 1988, Same Sky has established a unique place and profile in the life of Brighton and Hove. It started as a small independent arts group centered around two job sharing animators collaborating with a range of freelance artists, often from existing visual arts and performance groups. The artistic director utilizing and melding the skills and arts practices of the various freelancers to produce the unique Same Sky brand. Same Sky has continued to broaden it’s scale and range so it now comprises a portfolio of some 20 projects a year, delivered in community or educational settings in all parts of the UK.
Thank you to The Arts Council for their support during our 30th year.
