Same Sky, an artist-led community and celebratory arts charity, is seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. At Same Sky, we specialise in delivering transformative arts experiences that connect people to their communities and sense of place. From the iconic Burning the Clocks winter solstice celebration in Brighton to the Children’s Parade opening Brighton Festival, and events like Glow Wild at Wakehurst with audiences exceeding 30,000, our work spans festivals, multicultural celebrations, and educational settings across the region.

The Opportunity

As Treasurer, you will contribute to the strategic growth of Same Sky, ensuring the organisation’s financial health and sustainability while helping to build exciting new partnerships locally and regionally. Working in a collaborative and creative environment with our Trustees and Charity Director, you will:

• Provide oversight, critical feedback, and governance on budgets, accounts, and financial reporting.
• Ensure financial resources meet current and future needs.
• Develop reserves and investment policies.
• Advise on the financial implications of strategic plans.
• Support fundraising to ensure compliance with charity regulations.
• Ensuring accounts are prepared and disclosed according to funders’ and statutory requirements (e.g., Charity Commission).
• Managing external scrutiny of accounts and addressing recommendations.
• Keeping the board informed about financial responsibilities and obligations.
• Supporting the organisation’s fundraising strategy.
• Presenting accounts clearly and concisely at the Annual General Meeting.
• Participating in appraisal, recruitment, and disciplinary panels when necessary.

You will also have the chance to immerse yourself in Same Sky’s inspiring events and activities, directly seeing the impact of your contributions.

Person Specification

We’re looking for someone who:

• Holds a professional qualification in finance, such as a chartered accountant.
• Has experience in charity finance, fundraising, and/or pension schemes.
• Possesses strong analytical skills and the confidence to make informed, sometimes challenging recommendations.
• Can provide financial guidance and support to staff on an ad hoc basis.
• Has a passion for supporting the creative, cultural and community sectors.
• Communicates effectively and has excellent people management skills.

Time Commitment

This is a voluntary role. You will attend five board meetings per year (typically on weekday evenings in central Brighton, with virtual attendance options). With an additional 1 hour per month commitment to support good governance, review and checks on financial matters.
