My theme for the project Covid, Garden of Light is “Distance”.
Social distancing is now part of societies everyday life. The 2 metre distance rule has been introduced to keep us safe and prevent the further spread of the C-19 virus. We have all seen the warning signs and symbols, the typical stick figures as used for public conveniences now adopted to show a 2m distance. The symbols of chevrons, arrows to direct us in to one way systems. These hazard symbols are used to remind us to be socially conscious and distanced from each other.
My wish for my lantern was to continue to highlight the importance of social distancing whilst referring to safe human movement and distanced interaction.
I chose to use the format of a “weather vane” for my lantern thus referencing direction, and movement. The rotating figure head will resemble an “Angel like stick figure”with outstretched arms. Symbolising a guiding light, granting us safe passage through the unpredictable times we are all experiencing.
